Shopping for a Baby Shower

Made two stops at the corner of 10th and Flanders
and found everything I needed for a baby shower.
And, both stores have great children’s play
areas and gift wrapping.
Found organic cotton onesies, zipper suits, helmet caps and blankets in buttercup yellow and stripes at Hanna Andersson. And the only socks that ever stayed on The Kid’s feet when he was little and squirmy. He still sleeps in zipper suits, and it’s so nice to see the selection of organic cottons.
The Kid could have stayed for another hour playing at the train table. For several months he confused me by saying that he wanted to go ‘to the train store’. I finally figured out that he meant Hannah Andersson. Word to the wise, their charges show up on my Visa bill as ‘HA Flanders’ and I had some confusion trying to figure out where all the money was going.
Henny Penny is known as a fashion-forward children’s store. I was there, however, because it has the best-curated selection of children’s books that I’ve seen in Portland. For The Kid, found a book of silly rhymes with great art by Carin Berger. Also, a stunning counting book by Ann & Paul Rand, of corporate identity fame. Have searched for this for a while – glad to see it back in print.
The play area here has a captivating make believe kitchen fully stocked with equipment and ingredients. It also sports books and car toys, and great background music.
